The best Outrank alternative depends on what you want changed. RankRafter, our own tool, fits sites that already have Search Console data and want their next topics chosen from keywords ranking 4th to 30th. SEObot is the cheapest autopilot at $49 a month, Arvow keeps the backlink exchange, and Koala is the cheapest writer at $9.

We build RankRafter, so read our entry with that in mind. To keep the rest fair, every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page, checked on 5 October 2026, and each tool gets a plain statement of who it suits and who should skip it. That includes a section on who should stay with Outrank.

Quick picks: Outrank alternatives at a glance

We have left out star ratings. We have not run every tool through the same hands-on test, and a rating without one would be a guess.

What Outrank does, and why people look elsewhere

Outrank is an autopilot SEO platform with one plan. For $99 a month, or $999 a year, it researches keywords, builds a 30-day plan with one key phrase per day, writes and publishes 30 articles, adds AI images and runs automated backlink building. It publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Wix, Framer, Notion, Ghost and a custom webhook.

That is a lot for the price, and Outrank reports results to match. Its own study says that across 2,119 sites, the median site doubled its clicks about seven months in. Treat that as the vendor's figure, but it is more evidence than most tools in this category publish.

People still leave, and the reasons fall into four groups.

The price is fixed at 30 articles

There is no smaller plan. A site that wants eight good articles a month pays the same $99 as one that wants 30. Going the other way, 60 articles costs an extra $85 a month and 90 costs an extra $160.

Outrank's pricing page explains how its link building is funded: "You earn the credits that pay for it by hosting a relevant link in your own articles." In other words, your articles link out to other customers' sites, and theirs link to yours.

Google's spam policies list "excessive link exchanges" as an example of link spam. Whether a given network crosses the line into "excessive" is Google's call, not ours, and Outrank says it checks every placement for relevance. Some users are unconvinced. In an r/SaaS thread on Outrank reviews, one commenter wrote that "the articles are okay, but the backlink exchange is pretty bad," while another called the product "buggy software but effective." You should decide how much of your link profile you want coming from a single network.

Thirty articles is more than many sites can review

Daily publishing only helps if the articles are good. Google's policy on scaled content abuse targets pages "generated for the primary purpose of manipulating search rankings and not helping users," and it applies "no matter how it's created." Thirty unreviewed posts a month is a real exposure for a small team. Outrank's own answer to this is a human editing service, which costs $1,399 a month.

Topics come from keyword research, not from your own results

Outrank picks keywords by analyzing your niche, competitors and audience. It also flags underperforming articles so you can schedule a rewrite. What it does not put at the center is the list of queries your site already ranks for on page two. For a site with some history, that list is usually the shortest path to more clicks.

How we compared these Outrank alternatives

We compared seven tools, Outrank included, on six criteria. We weighted them equally, because which one matters most depends on why you are switching.

  1. Price at entry, and how many finished articles that buys.
  2. How topics are chosen: from the tool's keyword research, from your own list, or from your site's search data.
  3. What happens after publishing: whether the tool reads performance data and acts on it.
  4. Backlinks: whether they are included, and how they are built.
  5. Publishing: which platforms it connects to.
  6. Review control: whether you can approve an outline or draft before it goes live.

Our sources were each vendor's pricing and product pages, Outrank's own alternatives page, the top-ranking roundups for this search, and public Reddit threads. We built RankRafter and use it for our own blog. We have not run paid accounts on every other tool, so we describe what each one publishes about itself and say so where we could not confirm a detail.

Two patterns stand out. Only Outrank and Arvow build links for you, and both do it through automated placement, so if link building is the reason you bought Outrank, your shortlist is short. And most of these tools treat publishing as the finish line. The ones that keep working afterwards, using your own search data, are RankRafter, Koala's higher plans, Frase and Outrank's rewrite queue.

RankRafter: best for sites with Search Console data

RankRafter is an SEO content tool that researches, writes and publishes an article, then reads your Search Console to decide what to write next. This is our product.

Strengths

  • Topics from your own data. Connect Search Console and it surfaces the keywords you rank 4th to 30th for, with the impressions behind each one. These are striking distance keywords, and they become your next articles.
  • Research against today's results. Every article starts with a read of the pages currently ranking and a list of what they cover that you do not.
  • You approve the outline. Nothing is drafted until you have seen the structure, and you are notified before a scheduled article publishes.

Limitations

  • No backlink building. If you want links built for you, this is the wrong tool.
  • Three publishing targets. Hosted Blog, WordPress and Sanity. Outrank connects to eight.
  • It is a beta. The free allowance is 3 articles a month, with more on request, and paid plans have not been priced yet.

Pricing: free during beta, no card required.

Best for: founders, small marketing teams and agencies with an existing site that already gets impressions. On a brand-new site with no search data, the Search Console half has nothing to read yet, and an autopilot like SEObot or Outrank will give you more volume.

SEObot: best budget autopilot

SEObot is an autonomous SEO agent aimed at founders who want to enter a URL and leave it running.

Strengths

  • Lowest autopilot price. Subscriptions start at $49 a month. Outrank's roundup puts that tier at 9 articles and the $99 tier at 20.
  • Wide publishing support. WordPress, Webflow, Ghost, Framer, Wix, Shopify, Notion, HubSpot, Next.js, webhooks and a REST API.
  • Long articles with checks. Up to 4,000 words, with fact checking, source citations and monthly re-linking across your articles.

Limitations

  • Fewer articles per dollar at $99. By Outrank's count, 20 against Outrank's 30.
  • Backlinks are unclear. The homepage lists "Backlinks to grow Domain Rating" as a feature without explaining how they are built.

Pricing: from $49/month. SEObot says it has created over 200,000 articles and supports 50+ languages.

Best for: a solo founder who wants Outrank's hands-off model at half the entry price and does not need 30 posts a month.

Arvow is a credit-based autoblogging platform and the closest match to Outrank's overall workflow.

Strengths

  • Automatic backlinks. Available from the Business plan, alongside brand visibility tracking in AI assistants.
  • Cheap on yearly billing. Solo drops from $69 to $39 a month when you pay for a year.
  • Multi-site plans. Business covers 5 websites and Ultimate covers unlimited sites, which suits agencies.

Limitations

  • Credit math. An article costs 15 credits and each AI image costs 1 more, so 1,000 credits is roughly 66 text-only articles and fewer with images. Feed-generated articles cost an extra 10 credits.
  • Backlinks are not on the entry plan. Business is $169 a month, or $69 billed yearly. The same exchange-style caution applies here as with Outrank.

Pricing: Solo $69/month (1,000 credits, 1 site), Business $169/month (3,000 credits, 5 sites), Ultimate $449/month (9,000 credits, unlimited sites). Arvow shows these as limited-time prices.

Best for: people who like how Outrank works and mainly want a lower bill or more than one site.

Koala AI: best low-cost writer

Koala AI is an article writer priced by words. It gives you drafts, and on higher plans a planning layer.

Strengths

  • Cheapest way in. Essentials is $9 a month for 15,000 words, and every new account gets 5,000 free words without a card.
  • Search data on the mid plan. Professional, at $49 a month, adds a Search Console and Analytics dashboard, internal linking for up to 50 sites and deep research.
  • Affiliate features. Live Amazon data for product articles.

Limitations

  • You are the strategist on cheaper plans. Content Calendar Autopilot starts on Boost at $99 a month, the same price as Outrank.
  • Word counts vary by model. Koala counts some models at 2x or 3x, so the same plan buys fewer articles if you choose a stronger model.

Pricing: Essentials $9, Professional $49, Boost $99 a month, with 20% off for annual billing.

Best for: bloggers and affiliate sites that already know which keywords to target and want low-cost drafts to edit.

Frase: best for teams that review before publishing

Frase is a research and optimization suite that has added an agent for drafting and publishing.

Strengths

  • Research depth. SERP-driven briefs and outlines, built for writers and editors who supervise each piece.
  • Maintenance of old content. Plans include monthly audit pages, so older articles get checked and patched.
  • Sanity support. Frase publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or its own hosted CMS.

Limitations

  • Ten articles on the entry plan. Professional, at $129 a month, raises that to 40 with 3 seats and 5 sites.
  • No link building. Frase does not acquire backlinks.

Pricing: Starter $49/month ($39 yearly), Professional $129/month ($103 yearly), Scale $299/month ($239 yearly) for 100 articles.

Best for: content teams with an editor who wants control over briefs and approvals.

Byword: best for bulk articles from a keyword list

Byword generates articles in bulk from keywords you supply.

Strengths

  • Built for volume. You upload a keyword list and get one article per keyword.
  • Free test. Byword offers 5 free articles to start.
  • Direct publishing. WordPress, Webflow and four other platforms.

Limitations

  • No keyword strategy. It expects you to bring the list.
  • Pricing we could not confirm first-hand. Byword's pricing page did not load for us. Both Outrank's and RightBlogger's roundups list it at $99 a month for 25 articles.

Pricing: reported at $99/month for 25 articles. Check Byword's site before you buy.

Best for: programmatic SEO projects where the keyword list already exists.

Outrank vs RankRafter: the direct comparison

The two tools solve different halves of the same problem.

Choose Outrank if you want the highest volume with the least involvement, need built-in link building, or publish to Shopify, Webflow or Framer. Choose RankRafter if your site already earns impressions and you would rather publish fewer articles, each aimed at a query you are close to winning. Our guide to Search Console content optimization shows the manual version of that process.

No tool, ours included, can promise a ranking. What you can control is whether each article has a reason to exist.

Best Outrank alternative by use case

  • Brand-new site, no search data: SEObot. It is hands-off and the cheapest autopilot, and a new site has no Search Console history to learn from yet.
  • Existing site with impressions but few clicks: RankRafter. Your page-two keywords are the highest-value topics you have.
  • Agency with several client sites: Arvow Business for volume across 5 sites, or Frase Professional if clients expect editorial review.
  • Affiliate or niche blog on a tight budget: Koala AI Essentials.
  • You want links built for you: Arvow Business, or stay with Outrank.
  • Programmatic SEO at volume: Byword.

Watch for two things when you compare. Credit and word-based plans (Arvow, Koala) buy fewer finished articles once images and stronger models are counted. And yearly prices are often shown as the headline number, so check what you pay month to month.

Our verdict

Our pick depends on one question: does your site already have search data?

If it does, we recommend RankRafter, and we would say that even if it were not ours, because the logic holds for any tool that works this way. A site with impressions already has a ranked list of topics Google half-trusts it for. Writing for those before writing for new keywords is the more efficient order, and it pairs well with building topical authority around the pages that are closest.

If it does not, we recommend SEObot. A new site needs published pages before it has anything to measure, and $49 a month is the cheapest way to get an autopilot doing that.

Stay with Outrank if 30 articles a month suits you, you are comfortable with exchange-built links, and you publish to a platform the others do not support. Its bundle is hard to match on price.

Pick Arvow if links are the feature you cannot give up. Pick Koala if you only need drafts. Pick Frase if an editor signs off on everything. Pick Byword if you already hold the keyword list.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Outrank?

The best alternative to Outrank depends on your site. RankRafter suits sites with existing Search Console data, because it picks topics from keywords already ranking 4th to 30th. SEObot is the closest hands-off autopilot at a lower price, and Arvow is the closest match if you want automated backlinks.

What is the cheapest Outrank alternative?

Koala AI is the cheapest paid option at $9 a month for 15,000 words, though you choose the keywords yourself. SEObot is the cheapest full autopilot, starting at $49 a month. RankRafter is free during its beta, with 3 articles a month and no card required.

Is there a free Outrank alternative?

Yes. RankRafter is free while in beta, limited to 3 articles a month. Koala AI gives every new account 5,000 free words, and Byword offers 5 free articles. Outrank itself has a free trial, but trial articles carry an Outrank watermark until you subscribe.

Arvow includes automatic backlinks from its Business plan, which costs $169 a month or $69 billed yearly. SEObot lists backlinks as a feature without documenting the method. RankRafter, Koala AI, Frase and Byword do not build backlinks.

Outrank funds its link building with credits you earn by hosting links in your own articles. Google's spam policies name "excessive link exchanges" as link spam, but do not define a threshold. Outrank says it verifies every placement for relevance. The risk depends on how much of your link profile comes from one network.

Does Google penalize AI-written content?

Google does not penalize content for being AI-written. Its spam policies target scaled content abuse, meaning pages produced mainly to manipulate rankings without helping users, "no matter how it's created." Reviewed, useful articles are fine. Large volumes of unreviewed pages are the risk.

What is the difference between Outrank and RankRafter?

Outrank plans content from keyword research and publishes 30 articles a month with built-in link building. RankRafter publishes fewer articles and chooses the next ones from your Search Console data, focusing on keywords ranking 4th to 30th. Outrank costs $99 a month, and RankRafter is free in beta.

Is Outrank worth $99 a month?

Outrank is worth $99 a month if you will publish close to 30 articles and want keyword research, images, publishing and link building in one plan. It is poor value if you need fewer than 10 articles, since there is no smaller plan.
